Time for a New Rule.
This is probably not a new rule for some, but it is for this blog. I’m establishing a Big Board of Shame and Idiocy, sort of like when Colbert puts people on notice. Who gets to be on the BBSI?
No. 1 criterion: Any time a public figure calls anyone else “Nazis”, that’s it. Game over. As soon as you play the Nazi card, you’ve established your credentials as an irrational, fear-mongering exaggerator and dragged the discussion into the gutter. Therefore you’re on the Big Board.
Here’s No. 1:
Jason Kenney: The Biggest Idiot in Canadian Politics.
“Despite its political wing, the militant group Hezbollah is a terrorist organization that is comparable to the Nazi party of the 1930s, says [Kenney] Prime Minister Stephen Harper's parliamentary secretary.” (CBC)
Oh, shut up, fool.

What can be said that hasn't already?
I shake my head
Didn't George W say Islamic fascists just last week? I think it was in relation to the liquids on planes thing.
But then, I imagine George W is the inspiration for all those who follow on the BBSI
Yes, he did. But in order to make it to the BBSI, he has to use the "N" word.
Only by using the word "nazi" does the public figure show off his or her true intellectual laziness.
Ok, I don't want to get too nitpicky here, but what is the diff between the N word and the f word?
Anyway, how can George W be intellectually lazy when he doesn't have an intellect?
You are not being nitpicky. It's just that I think "Nazi" is the laziest, universal "shock" shorthand one can use. Also, I think most people (i.e. even people who don't read the newspaper) just automatically feel that they know what a Nazi is, whereas trying to explain what a fascist is would require some thought.
I read yesterday that for Bush, the word "fascist" just means "bad". He has no real understanding of fascism, he just knows it's bad. And people who don't agree with him are bad, therefore they are fascists. He'd be better off using the word Nazi because then people would understand he just means bad people.
