Happy New Year!

My fellow oxen, this is our year.

The Year of the Ox, year 4706 in the Chinese lunar calendar, is supposed to represent prosperity through perseverance and hard work. (MSNBC)

Are we ready to work hard, persevere and get prosperous?

My calendar tells me today is also Australia Day. I guess if you are Chinese-Australian by now you must be either a) really drunk or b) really hung-over. Happy recovery.

Australia Day is a bit weird - sure, its a day off work, but its also called 'Invasion Day' by the aboriginals. This is because it 'celebrates' the day the first boatload of convicts landed in Sydney Cove and raised the Union Jack. Because we have not fought any wars of independance or anything similiar, there is always a big discussion about what date should be our national day (do we need one though?)

Its also a day a lot of people have their citizenship ceremonies and amongst the 13,000 who did so yesterday was one Leo Sayer - sure you will all remember him?

Actually, that was the heading on the story - something like "Leo really feels like dancing now"
