Great Movie Moment

I’m watching From Russia With Love right now. This is the second time it’s been on in the past month, and I find it really amusing.

A scene I love: Lotte Lenya wants to meet the new killer operative. They bring Robert Shaw (looking verrrry fit) to her. She circles him and then punches him hard in the stomach. He doesn’t flinch. She declares him satisfactory and leaves.

This is the test?

What kind of half-assed operation is SPECTRE anyway?

Yes, a fine set of abs makes him the perfect killer apparently! Those were the simple days.

...and naturally, Robert Shaw proves to be ineffective in the end against our beautiful dark hairy-chested hero.

Although, Shaw glistening in that skimpy towel is enough to make me want to hire him, too (at least for an hour!)

One wonders if Kronsteen was recruited the same way...

If it wasn't so ungodly early in the morning, I'd make a joke about it being a Brechtian moment, but it's ungodly early in the morning and I have to get the kids to school...

can't one have a brechtian moment whilst getting kids off to school??

Well, it was early, and the only thing that was in my mind was the fact that my copy of THREEPENNY OPERA has Lotte Lenya on the cover and I always associate her with her husband/partner Berthold and I cannot watch FRWL without wondering "how did she end up in this movie??".

The blogmistress should give up the pretense of not being a Bond fan after her Casino Royale experience and now this entry. Turn this into a Bond blog already - you know you want to!

(I promise I will get a friend to break into your house next time Thunderball is on).

You know what was also great about Lotte Lenya? Her coke-bottom bottle glasses.

I haven't succumbed to being a Bond fan yet, but I'll admit I'm a big Moneypenny fan. She's cool.

And incidentally Sean Connery is really handsome in FRWL. I'll only watch the Connery Bond films. I'll become a Connery pursist vis a vis Bond.

That would be "purist". ahem.

speaking of sean:
after yrs of trying, mr mushrooms finally forced me to watched "hunt for red october"-
he had been swearing up and down that it was a great movie, not to mention a festival of men-all true, as it turned out-
what he didn't tell me was that along w/old craggy scottish/russian sean c, there was also a young alec b.

who knew?

I'm reading a book about the legal battles behind Thunderball, and all it does it make me more certain than ever that breaking into an apartment to watch it was the right thing to do.

Plus we got nachos! Yuuuu-um!
