Work Question

Let's say you work in a bureau with about six or seven departments in it. And you have a new Head of that bureau.

How long should it be before the new Bureau Head either has a general staff meeting to introduce himself, or goes dept to dept to introduce himself? A week? Two weeks?

We are now at two-and-a-half months and we still have not met the new boss.

My supervisor (Mrs. Defend and Make Execuses for the Superior No Matter What) tells us the new guy is very, very busy.

We, the underlings, are beginning to suspect that the guy is just a douche.

Over the years, I have learned that a bowl of candies on one's desk attracts all sorts of people...you might want to try that?

JAW fan
(note: I do not have candy on my desk, the last thing I want is to attract people anywhere near me!)
(note2: bowl should not contain Rockets only, because you will not attract all people.)
(note3: a bowl of chips would not work either, as all contents would be eaten before anyone has a chance to even know they're there)

But with Rockets, you will attract the right kind of people.

I recommend Cherry Chews.

1) They are recognized and appreciated by the right kind of people.

2) Those who aren't familiar with the delicacy will view them with suspicion. Rumours will start... and there will be those who envy your 'hip' lifestyle.

The new guy could at least do a meet and greet, pop into a staff meeting for a few minutes - all of us who work in offices know what the form is. I would never have a bowl of lollies (thats what we call them down here) on my desk because no one else would get a chance to eat them....

be careful what you wish for. MR. VP may end up to be a real pain and in your face once you're on his radar.

Rockets get my vote.

Depends on your meeting schedule. We have department meetings every month so a month tops would be about right for us.

Otherwise they're playing that my look how busy and important I am game. No one should be that busy...that's what employees are for.

Forget putting candy out. I'd eat it all. Everyone stops by my desk but I work at a company that only has less than a dozen women total. Guys tend to congregate at our desks...I'm assuming they get tired of each other.
