A roadside blast killed three Canadian soldiers on patrol Wednesday in southern Afghanistan, bringing Canada's total number of fallen soldiers in the Afghan mission to 60. .....
Brig.-Gen. Tim Grant said the type of vehicle was used frequently for resupply missions and "was appropriate for the task at hand." (CBC)
If by "the task at hand" you mean getting blown up by an IED, then yes I have to agree the vehicle was appropriate. If, on the other hand, you'd like your soldiers to come home alive, then I think said vehicle is not quite up to the task. What a comment. Sigh.

Unfortunately, the fighters in A'stan are learning from the fighters in Iraq, and incidences such as this one are on the rise. Before the Iraq invasion, things like suicide bombers and roadside bombs were virtually unheard of. Now, the fighters are travelling and sharing tactics, and the US has committed so many troops to Iraq that many are now calling Afghanistan the "forgtotten war". We simply don't have the manpower to maintain the troop levels that we once did, and the soldiers are paying the price. It is tragic. I'm sorry for your country's loss. Thanks Dubya.
I also heard they were in an open jeep because the road was considered 'safe' - I would have thought the assumption would be no road is safe over there.
One would assume that, wouldn't one? But what do we know.
Anne,
I see the headline today is that 14 US soldiers have died in Iraq in the past 24 hours. That's an incredible number.
I'm discouraged about how uninterested Americans seem to be about ending this thing. It's like the whole country has just given up on the government. (Except for the 28% of who still Bush is the Greatest!!)
As you'll see in my post up top, yes I think we have given up. Congress won't stand up to Dubya and refuse to fund the war indefinately. Dubya won't end the war, because he'd have to admit to being infallible. In the meantime, fatality numbers continue to climb.
I hope the bird flu gets that 28%.
