This year for the first time in a gazillion years I decided to give up something for Lent. My sister always nags me about making a Lenten sacrifice. Being a lazy heathen, I never do. But this year I decided to test myself. So I gave up colas. No Coke or Pepsi. And, frankly, it's killing me.
I can't wait until Easter.
A Diet Coke is my comfort drink around 2:30 or 3:00 in the afternoon at work. When I'm bored and time is dragging. It's a modest pick-me-up. But I thought I was drinking too many cokes. I suspected I was growing dependent on them, and apparently I was right about this. I miss my coke! waahhhh!
I'm so glad I never took up smoking. I have no will power.
But I will make it to next weekend without a coke. I'm too close to victory (moral victory!) to give up now.

may god grant you a nice big coke classic easter morning!
Would a coffee be a good substitute? Slightly less caffeine in a coffee, I suspect. You know, if I don't have my morning coffee, I have a headache by 10.00am - its tragic isn't it?
Oh, two other things - what kind of guilt trip has your sister got you going on???
And as a heathen athiest, I don't have to give up anything for anybody.....
I'm with susieq...giving it up serves what purpose??? If you were a murderer and or an embezzler, I would say, hey, not a bad thing to give up for Lent (or for any circumstance for that matter)... Now, if you're giving up your cola for health and dietary reasons---again, not a bad idea...but to give up cola for 40 days just so you can scoff it down again, what's the point??? Of course, I will probably be proved wrong when you and I die together in some freak car crash, we both get to heaven, St. Peter pulls out his check list and proudly states "Oh, Miss Nanuk, you gave up Coke for a month, you may go in...Jaw, you get to go to hell with susieq!"

I look forward to sitting on my cloud, playing my harp and looking down my nose at youse guys.
I, also, have to have a coffee by a certain time each day or I get a headache. That's addiction for ya. But I only have one coffee per day. And I haven't increased my coffee in-take since giving up coke, which surprises me. I'm drinking more V-8, though. What a nerd.
Well I used to go off caffiene a few times a year to clear out my system. Sadly, for health reasons I no longer imbibe caffiene at all.
But I do remember when I did my little clearing the system cold turkeys. The next time I drank a soda, I would have the best caffiene buzz for a couple of days!
after miss mushrooms was born, I still remember my first post-pregnancy moccaccino -- now THAT was a great coffee buzz !
that said, I know I have no control over my coffee addiction -o well, there are worse addictions out there
and hey, miss nanuk, since when do you drink coffee? I thought you were free of such impure crutches???

One coffee per day, that's my limit. And if it's a cafe au lait, all the better. I have worked hard to not become an all-day coffee drinker.
it's a good life, the all-day-coffee-drinking life
tho sleep is, of course, optional
