I'm only 9 years late, old man

In 2009, sis, bro-in-law and I went on vacation to Maine.  We took a winding drive back home and went through New Hampshire.  When we were kids we vacationed in New Hampshire and I remember looking up at the mountains to see the Old Man of the Mountain, a rock formation that looked like the profile of an old man. It was a well known symbol of New Hampshire.

So, in 2009, we are driving in NH and I am looking for the Old Man of the Mountain. We drive and drive and I say to my sister, that's really weird, I thought we couldn't miss it.

Cut to this morning, in 2012, and while reading a totally unrelated story, I learn that the Old Man of the Mountain collapsed back in 2003. Nine years ago. Why did I never hear about this? No wonder I couldn't find it. Somebody should've told me!

Ha! When Mrs Anonymous was pregnant with the first child we went to Bar Harbour and right by the Old Man of the Mountain. Then in 2003 we were watching the news and saw the story about how it had literally just fallen off the mountain. So I was aware of its demise, but we too have seen it and can vouch for the fact it did indeed exist.

Okay - I just clicked OK once - why did my comment repeat?

Global warming killed the old man. He just done slid off the mountain.

Now I feel like I missed out on something...Was this old man bigger than Paul Bunyan at Lake George Mini-Golf? Just trying to estimate how much damage he might have caused when he slid off.

if you missed this important mountain story, ms nan., you are clearly not spending enough time surfing the wondrous inter-web

How is that possible? How can I not be spending enough time surfing the interwebs when it is quite frankly the only thing I do between 9 and 5, Monday to Friday?

FYI Knuckles, wikipedia says the old man was 40 feet tall and 25 feet wide. I can't imagine how many tons of rock that is. Definitely would've crushed Paul Bunyan.
